What is a URL slug?
The slug is the readable part of a URL that names the page, like “free-url-shortener” in example.com/blog/free-url-shortener. Good slugs are short, lowercase and describe the page.
Should a slug use hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator, while words joined by underscores can be read as one word.
Should I remove stop words like “a” and “the”?
Usually, yes — they make slugs longer without adding meaning. Keep them when the slug would read oddly or change meaning without them.
