What is URL encoding?
URL encoding (percent-encoding) replaces characters that are not allowed or have a special meaning in a URL with a % sign and their byte value in hexadecimal. A space becomes %20 and “é” becomes %C3%A9.
What is the difference between encoding a component and a full URL?
Component mode (like encodeURIComponent) also encodes / ? & = and #, which is right for a single query value. Full-URL mode (like encodeURI) leaves those characters alone so the address keeps working.
Why do some URLs use + for spaces?
HTML forms encode spaces as + in query strings (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). Turn on “Treat + as a space” when decoding such values.
