Restaurants and cafés

QR code menu you can update without reprinting

Letlink gives your restaurant, café or bar a QR code for tables, windows and takeaway bags that opens the menu you already publish — your menu page or a PDF on your site — and lets you swap it for a new one without printing a single new code.

Short answer

A QR code menu is a code on a table, window or leaflet that opens a restaurant’s menu on the guest’s phone. With Letlink the code points at a short link, and the link points at your menu page or PDF, so a new season’s menu is a link edit, not a reprint; every scan is counted by hour, weekday and device. Letlink does not host or design the menu itself. Free includes 3 codes and 1,000 tracked scans and clicks a month; Solo, at $3.90 a month, includes 200 codes and 10,000.

Features

What a menu QR code needs to do

New menu, same printed code

Point the link at the autumn menu today and the winter one in December. Table tents, stickers and window cards stay where they are.

Scans by hour and weekday

The When people click card on the link’s stats page names the busiest hour and weekday, so you can see whether the code is used at lunch, dinner or both.

One code per table or location

Each short link carries one QR code. Create a link per table, terrace, window or branch and compare their scan counts in the workspace Analytics table.

Which phones guests use

Device type, operating system and browser on every scan — useful when you check how your menu page or PDF looks on the phones guests really carry.

Your colours and logo

Set a dark code colour on a light background to match the table card and add your logo; Letlink refuses colour pairs too faint to scan.

SVG for the printer

Download an SVG vector for printed table cards and menus, or a PNG for your website and social posts.

Your domain in the code

From Solo, a link on your own domain puts that domain inside the QR code, such as menu.yourrestaurant.com/q/…, instead of letl.ink.

Use cases

Where restaurants put menu QR codes

Table tents and stickers

One code per table or per room, so you can see which part of the dining room actually scans and which prefers the printed menu.

The front window

Passers-by scan the menu before deciding to come in. A separate code for the window shows how many people looked from the street, and when.

Takeaway bags and delivery inserts

A code on the bag opens your ordering or menu page, and its scans show how many customers came back to look.

Several branches

A link and code per branch, each pointing at that branch’s menu, with scan counts you can compare side by side.

Step by step

How to make a QR code menu

  1. Publish the menu

Put the menu on your website as a page or a PDF with a public https:// address. Letlink links to it; it does not host it.

  2. Create a short link

In the link builder, paste the menu’s address and give it a readable back-half such as /menu. Create one link per table or location if you want to compare them.

  3. Generate and print the code

Open the link, generate its QR code, set your colours and logo, and download an SVG for the printer. Scan the proof with an iPhone and an Android phone.

  4. Update the menu later

When the menu changes, edit the link’s destination to the new page or PDF. The codes on the tables open the new menu straight away.

QR code menu: questions and answers

How do I create a QR code for a restaurant menu?

Publish the menu as a web page or a PDF on your own site, create a Letlink short link to it, and generate a QR code from that link’s page. Download it as an SVG for printing and test it with two phones. The free plan includes 3 codes; Solo includes 200 for $3.90 a month.

Can I change the menu without reprinting the QR code?

Yes. The printed code points at a short link, and the link points at your menu. Edit the link’s destination to the new page or PDF and every printed code opens the new menu. Keep the link active: archiving it or deleting the QR code makes the printed codes stop working.

Does Letlink host my menu?

No. Letlink makes QR codes and short links that point to a URL you choose; it does not host, design or build menus. Use your website’s menu page, a PDF on your site or the menu page of the ordering service you already use.

Can I see when guests scan the menu?

Yes. Each link’s stats page shows the busiest hour and weekday above two histograms, plus the daily trend and the peak day. Scan history is kept for 7 days on Free, 30 days on Solo and a year on Growth.

Should every table have its own QR code?

Only if you want to compare them. Each short link has one QR code, so a code per table means a link per table, all pointing at the same menu. A single code for the whole restaurant is simpler; Solo’s 200 codes cover a code per table in most venues.

How many scans can a menu QR code take?

Codes never stop working, but tracked scans have a monthly allowance: 1,000 on Free, 10,000 on Solo, 100,000 on Growth and unlimited on Ultimate, shared with ordinary link clicks. Past it, scans still open the menu but are not recorded until the next month.
