The redirect
A short link points at Letlink. When it is opened, the click is recorded and the visitor is sent to the destination with a temporary (302) redirect — no interstitial page in between.
Link tracking guide
Link tracking tells you which of the links you shared were opened, where and on what. This guide covers how it works, how it fits with UTM tags and Google Analytics, and how to build a setup you can report on.
Short answer
Link tracking is measuring the clicks on links you share, usually by routing them through a short link that records each visit before redirecting. Letlink records every click’s time, country, device, browser, referrer, UTM campaign and variation, and lets you export it as CSV on every plan, send it to GA4 from Solo or pull it by REST API from Growth. The free plan tracks 1,000 clicks a month.
Features
A short link points at Letlink. When it is opened, the click is recorded and the visitor is sent to the destination with a temporary (302) redirect — no interstitial page in between.
Source, medium and campaign labels that say which channel a link belongs to. On their own they only help if analytics runs on the destination; on a Letlink link they also label the click itself.
The click recorded at the redirect: country, device, browser, referrer and variation, for any destination, even when the visitor blocks scripts.
GA4 on your site sees what visitors do after they land. From Solo, Letlink sends each click to GA4 server-side as a link_click event, so both views sit in one property.
The Analytics page ranks every link and shows traffic channels, sources, devices, geography and click timing across the whole workspace.
CSV export on every plan, up to 50,000 rows per download. Growth adds REST API endpoints for summaries, time series, breakdowns and visit feeds.
Clicks are kept for 7 days on Free, 30 on Solo, a year on Growth and indefinitely on Ultimate. Pick the plan before the window you need runs out.
Use cases
List every placement — newsletter, each social network, each ad set, each printed piece — and give each its own short link and UTM source.
On Solo and above, put the links on your own domain so people see who sent them; the tracking is the same either way.
Turn on GA4 from Solo, or Segment, Mixpanel, PostHog, Amplitude, Plausible or Matomo from Growth, so clicks sit next to the rest of your data.
Compare links on the Analytics page during the campaign, then export a CSV or pull the numbers by API for the wrap-up before the history window closes.
Decide where the campaign lands. If your site’s analytics should see the campaign, include the UTM parameters in this URL.
In the link builder choose Link with UTM, paste the URL, fill in source, medium and campaign, and type a readable back-half.
Generate a QR code from each printed placement’s link; scans are counted as their own variation.
On Solo or above, open Integrations → Google Analytics 4 and paste your Measurement ID and API secret, or connect Slack to watch clicks arrive.
Compare links on the Analytics page and each link’s stats page, then download a CSV for the campaign report.

Link tracking is measuring the clicks on links you share — how many, when, from where and on which devices. It usually works by routing each link through a short link that records the click before redirecting. Letlink does this on every plan, with 1,000 tracked clicks a month free.
The link you share points at the tracking service rather than the destination. When someone opens it, Letlink records the click — time, device, browser, referrer, campaign — and redirects them to the destination with a 302 status. Location is looked up from the IP afterwards, so it never slows the redirect.
No. UTM tags are labels in a URL that your website analytics reads when the visitor lands; they record nothing by themselves. Link tracking records the click itself, on any destination. Using both — a Letlink Link with UTM, with the tags also in the destination URL — gives you each view.
For what happens after the click, yes. Letlink sees the click, not pages viewed afterwards, and purchases only when you report them back as conversions. From Solo it sends each click to GA4 as a link_click event, so you can follow the visit through in one place.
Download a CSV from the Analytics page for the whole workspace or from a link’s stats page for one link, on every plan, up to 50,000 rows per download. Files cover your plan’s history window and leave out IP addresses and user agents. Growth and Ultimate can also pull analytics and visits through the REST API.
Letlink records what clicked, not who: no cookies on the redirect, no advertising profiles and no sale of visitor data. Click rows are deleted after your plan’s retention window. Whether you need consent for your own use depends on where you and your audience are.
