Smart links

Link creator for smart links that route every visitor

Letlink is a link creator for links that decide where each visitor goes — by device, by app store, by country or by a weighted split — while staying one short URL you can print, post and share.

Short answer

A smart link creator builds short links that choose a destination for each visitor instead of sending everyone to the same page. Letlink creates App Store, Instagram profile, mobile-platform and device-aware links that route by the visitor’s device, split tests across up to 8 weighted destinations, country rules and per-device visit limits. Split tests and visit limits are on every plan, including Free; smart link types and country rules start on Solo at $3.90 a month.

Features

The smart links you can create

App Store link

Give one link an App Store URL and a Google Play URL. iPhones and iPads go to the App Store, Android phones go to Google Play, and other devices fall back to the iOS listing unless you set a desktop fallback.

Instagram profile link

Enter a username and Letlink builds the profile URL. On Android the link asks the Instagram app to open the profile, and webhook payloads carry the username for your automations.

Mobile platform link

Separate iOS, Android and desktop destinations behind one short code — for a TestFlight page, a download page you control and a marketing site.

Device-aware link

Two destinations: one for phones and tablets, one for everything else. The simplest choice when you only need small screen versus large screen.

Split tests behind one link

Add two to eight named destinations with weights to a Standard or UTM link. Each click records the variation served, and append ?vr=name to force one for QA.

Country rules

Block the countries you list or allow only those, for one link or the whole workspace, and send turned-away visitors to a fallback URL. A link’s own rule replaces the workspace rule.

Per-device visit limits

Set how many times one device may open a link per rolling hour. Over the allowance it gets HTTP 429 instead of the destination — useful for gated drops and one-time invites.

One rule worth knowing

Smart link types and split tests cannot be combined: weighted variations work only on Standard URL and Link with UTM. Device detection reads the User-Agent, which is reliable but can misread unusual browsers and in-app webviews.

Use cases

What people build with smart links

App launches

One link on a poster, a video or a press release that drops each phone on the right store listing, with clicks split by device in the stats.

Creators and shops on Instagram

A profile link that opens the Instagram app on Android, printed on packaging or shared in places where an @handle is not clickable.

Landing-page tests

Send 50/50 or 70/30 of the traffic from one ad or newsletter link to two pages, and read each destination’s real share against the share you set.

Regional offers

A link that only opens in the markets an offer is licensed or shipped for, with everyone else sent to a waitlist page.

Limited drops and invites

A visit limit of one or two opens per device per hour, so a single phone cannot hammer a release page from one shared link.

Step by step

How to create a smart link

  1. Pick the link type

Open Create link and choose App Store URL, Instagram profile, Mobile platform-aware or Device-aware. For a split test, choose Standard URL or Link with UTM instead.

  2. Fill in each destination

Enter the store URLs, the username or the per-device addresses. For a split test, open Split test destinations and add two to eight rows with a name, an https:// URL and a weight.

  3. Add access rules

In the link’s Country access section, choose Block countries or Allow only and an optional fallback URL. Turn on Limit visits per device if one device should only open it a set number of times an hour.

  4. Test it on real devices

Open the short link on an iPhone, an Android phone and a desktop, or append ?vr=name to check each split-test destination, then share it.

Smart link creator: questions and answers

What is a smart link creator?

A smart link creator makes short links that pick a destination for each visitor — by device, operating system, country or a weighted split — instead of sending everyone to one page. Letlink offers four device-based smart link types from the Solo plan at $3.90 a month, plus split tests and per-device visit limits on every plan.

Can one link send iPhone users to the App Store and Android users to Google Play?

Yes. An App Store URL link takes both store URLs and routes each visitor by their device: iPhones and iPads to the App Store, Android phones to Google Play, and other devices to the iOS listing unless you set a desktop fallback. It is available on Solo, Growth and Ultimate.

Can I run a split test on an App Store or device-aware link?

No. Smart link types and split tests cannot be combined. Weighted variations — up to eight destinations — work on Standard URL and Link with UTM links only, on every plan including Free. If you need both, create a split-test link and point each variation at a page that does its own device handling.

How accurate is device detection?

Letlink reads the visitor’s User-Agent on each click. That is reliable for ordinary phone and desktop browsers but can be wrong on unusual browsers and some in-app webviews, which is why the App Store type falls back to a sensible default. Always test a smart link on real devices before printing it.

Can I restrict a link to certain countries?

Yes, from the Solo plan. Choose Block countries or Allow only in the link’s Country access section, optionally with a fallback URL for turned-away visitors. Detection is based on the visitor’s IP address, so VPNs and proxies can get around it, and blocked visits are not recorded as clicks.

What happens when a visitor goes over a per-device visit limit?

The device receives HTTP 429 with a short message instead of being redirected, until the rolling hour moves on. Rejected visits are not recorded as clicks, so they do not use your monthly tracked-click allowance and do not fire webhooks or integrations. Visit limits are available on every plan.
