Use a separate short link per send or per button. Letlink counts clicks, not opens, and automated scanners that identify as bots are refused and not counted.
How-to
How to track link clicks in every channel you share them
Tracking clicks well is mostly about setup: one short link per channel, consistent UTM tags, and knowing what each channel does to the data. Here is the practical version, channel by channel.
Short answer
To track link clicks, replace the original URL with a short link that records each click, and use a separate link or UTM tag for each place you share it. With Letlink you create the link in the link builder, share it, and every click appears on its stats page with country, device, referrer and campaign. The free plan tracks 1,000 clicks a month with no card.

Features
Tracking clicks channel by channel
Social posts and bios
Many social apps open links in an in-app browser that sends no referrer, so those clicks show as Direct. Tag each network with utm_source so it is named in your reports.
Paid ads
Use one link per campaign or ad set. Click IDs such as gclid, fbclid and ttclid are passed through to the destination, so the ad platform’s own tag can still attribute the visit.
Print and QR codes
Give each flyer, poster or package its own QR code. Scans are tagged as their own variation, so printed traffic stays apart from on-screen clicks — 3 codes on Free, 200 on Solo.
Chat and messaging
With Block bots on, chat apps cannot fetch a preview card. Turn it off on Country access if you want unfurled previews; the preview fetch is still not counted as a click.
UTM tags per channel
Link with UTM stores source, medium and campaign on the link for your Letlink reports and adds them to the destination URL on every redirect, so your website analytics sees the same tags.
Use cases
A naming scheme that keeps reports readable
One link per placement
newsletter-oct, ig-bio, flyer-cafe: a back-half per placement makes the link list itself the report, without opening a single chart.
Consistent UTM values
Agree on lowercase source and medium values — newsletter / email, instagram / social — so the same channel is never split across two spellings.
Split tests for creative
To compare two landing pages from the same placement, add split test destinations to one link instead of making two links.

Create a free account
Sign up with an email and password — no card. The free plan covers 1,000 links and 1,000 tracked clicks a month.
-
Build the link
Open Create link, choose Link with UTM, paste the destination and fill in source, medium and campaign. Type a readable back-half such as /newsletter-oct.
-
Make one per channel
Repeat for each channel or placement, changing the source and back-half. Generate a QR code from the link’s page for anything printed.
-
Share and test
Put each link in its place, then open one in a private window to confirm it lands on the right page.
-
Read the stats page
Open a link to see clicks over time, traffic channels, top sources, devices, countries and the busiest hour and weekday. Compare links on the workspace Analytics page.

How do I track link clicks?
Share a short link that records clicks instead of the original URL. In Letlink, paste the URL into the link builder, add UTM source, medium and campaign if you want channel reports, and share the short link. Each click appears on the link’s stats page with country, device, browser and referrer.
Can I track clicks without a short link?
Only on pages you own, with analytics installed there — and then you see the visit, not the specific link that was clicked. A short link records the click itself, for any destination, and lets you tell one placement from another.
Should I use one link or several for a campaign?
Several: one per channel or placement. Each short link has its own stats page, so comparing them answers which channel worked. The free plan allows 1,000 links, Solo 3,000 and Growth 8,000.
Can I track clicks in an email?
Yes, by using a Letlink short link in the email. You see each click with time, location, device and referrer. You do not see opens — Letlink only records clicks on links.
Why do so many clicks show as Direct?
A click with no referrer header counts as Direct. Typed and pasted links, and many apps and in-app browsers, send none. Use a Link with UTM per channel so the source is recorded on the link regardless of the referrer.
Do UTM tags on a Letlink link reach Google Analytics?
Yes, with a Link with UTM. It stores source, medium and campaign on the link for Letlink’s reports and adds them to the destination URL on every redirect, so Google Analytics attributes the visit to that campaign. From Solo you can also send each click to GA4 directly.
