Retargeting pixels

Pixel tracker for short links: retarget everyone who clicks

Letlink fires your ad platforms’ retargeting pixels on the short link itself, so you can build audiences from people who click — even when the link points at a marketplace listing, a partner’s article or any page where you cannot place a tag.

Short answer

A pixel tracker fires an ad platform’s tracking pixel when someone visits, so that visitor can be added to a retargeting audience. Letlink fires up to seven pixels — Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and Reddit — on a short link’s redirect, through a brief hand-off page that forwards the visitor within 0.6 seconds at most. Retargeting pixels are on Growth at $8.90 a month and Ultimate at $39.90; by default visitors from the EU and EEA, the UK and Switzerland get no pixel unless you collect consent yourself.

Features

How pixels on a short link work

Seven pixels per link

Add a Meta Pixel ID, a Google Ads conversion ID such as AW-123456789 (optionally with a label), a LinkedIn Insight Tag partner ID, a Pinterest Tag ID, a TikTok Pixel code, an X Pixel ID and a Reddit Pixel ID to any link. Malformed IDs are refused when you save.

Works on pages you don’t own

The pixels fire on Letlink’s redirect, not on the destination, so a link to an Amazon listing, a podcast page or someone else’s article still builds an audience in your ad account.

A hand-off of 0.6 seconds at most

A link with pixels shows a tiny hand-off page that loads each platform’s official no-script image beacon and forwards as soon as they answer, never later than 0.6 seconds. Browsers without JavaScript are forwarded by a meta refresh. Links without pixels keep the instant redirect.

Image beacons, one script

Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, X and Reddit are image requests with no third-party JavaScript. TikTok publishes no image beacon, so it is the one pixel loaded through its official script.

Consent by default in Europe

Visitors from EU and EEA countries, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — and visitors whose country cannot be determined — get no pixel and go straight to the destination. Switch on I collect consent myself only when the link is shared inside a consented flow.

Bots never get a pixel

Crawlers and link-preview fetchers are refused or skipped before the hand-off, so audiences fill with people, not scrapers.

Server-side click events too

Separately from the pixels, Growth sends every recorded click from Letlink’s servers to the Meta Conversions API, TikTok Events API, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat and Reddit, with the ad’s click ID when an ad points straight at the short link. It does not depend on the browser at all.

What it does not do

The pixel sees a page view on the short link, not what the visitor does on the destination. Letlink stores only the pixel IDs and never tells you who clicked.

Use cases

Who puts pixels on short links

Marketplace sellers

A short link to an Amazon or Etsy listing fires your Meta and TikTok pixels on the way, so you can retarget shoppers the marketplace would otherwise keep to itself.

Content curators and newsletters

Links to other people’s articles in a newsletter or post build a Google Ads or LinkedIn audience of readers who cared about the topic.

Podcasts, video and print

A short link or QR code read out on a show or printed on a flyer adds every visitor to the same retargeting audience as your site.

Paid campaigns

Pixels on the redirect plus server-side click events from Growth give the ad platform two signals for the same click, each with its own strengths.

Step by step

How to add a retargeting pixel to a short link

  1. Copy your pixel IDs

Collect the IDs from each ad platform: the numeric Meta Pixel ID from Events Manager, your Google Ads conversion ID, the LinkedIn partner ID, and so on.

  2. Open the link in the editor

On Growth or Ultimate, create a link or open an existing one and go to the Retargeting pixels section.

  3. Paste the IDs and save

Fill in the platforms you use and save. Switch on I collect consent myself only if every visitor reaches the link after giving consent.

  4. Check the audience

Open the link from a browser outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, then look for the page view in each platform’s pixel diagnostics.

FAQ

Pixel tracker: questions and answers

Anything else? Talk to us — or read the help center.

What is a pixel tracker?

A pixel tracker is a small request to an ad platform that fires when someone visits, so the platform can add that person to a retargeting audience. Letlink fires the Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and Reddit pixels on a short link’s redirect, on Growth at $8.90 a month and Ultimate at $39.90.

Can I retarget people who click a link to a site I don’t own?

Yes. Because the pixels fire on the short link’s hand-off page rather than on the destination, a link to a marketplace listing, a partner’s article or a booking page still adds the visitor to your audience. The visitor is forwarded within 0.6 seconds at most.

Does a pixel slow the redirect down?

Slightly, and only on links that have pixels. The hand-off page forwards as soon as the beacons answer, never later than 0.6 seconds, and browsers without JavaScript are forwarded by a meta refresh. Links without pixels keep Letlink’s plain, instant redirect.

What about GDPR and consent?

By default Letlink fires no pixel for visitors from the EU and EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, or for visitors whose country cannot be determined: they go straight to the destination. If you collect consent yourself, switch on I collect consent myself on the link. You remain responsible for the lawful basis.

What is the difference between a pixel and a conversions API?

A pixel fires in the visitor’s browser and builds audiences; it can be blocked by ad blockers and consent rules. A conversions API is sent from a server. On Growth, Letlink does both: pixels on the hand-off page, and a server-side event for every recorded click to Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat and Reddit, with the ad click ID when the ad points straight at the short link.

Which plan do I need for retargeting pixels?

Growth at $8.90 a month or Ultimate at $39.90. On Free and Solo you can save pixel IDs on a link, but they are kept and not fired until the workspace is on Growth or Ultimate. Paying yearly takes 20% off.
