YouTube link tracker for descriptions, comments and on-screen links

Letlink gives each video its own short link — in the description, in a pinned comment, spoken aloud or shown as a QR code — and counts every click and scan per video, so you can tell which upload and which sponsor slot sent the traffic.

Short answer

A YouTube link tracker is a short link you use in video descriptions, pinned comments, channel links or on screen that records each click before forwarding the viewer, so traffic can be counted per video. YouTube makes links clickable in long-form descriptions and comments once a channel has advanced features, and in channel profile links; links in Shorts descriptions and comments are not clickable, so a short, readable link or a QR code does that job. Letlink tracks 1,000 clicks a month free; Solo, at $3.90 a month, adds a custom domain for readable links like yourname.com/gear, 200 QR codes and 30 days of history.

Features

Tracking links in and around your videos

A link per video

Give every description and pinned comment its own short link, even when they lead to the same page. Each link’s stats page then answers which video sent the clicks.

Links people can say and remember

Choose the back-half — /gear, /course, /ep42 — and on Solo put it on your own domain, so a link you say aloud or show on screen is one viewers can type from memory.

QR codes on screen

Show a QR code in the video for viewers watching on a TV or laptop to scan with their phone. Scans use their own /q/ address and are counted separately from typed and tapped clicks.

Fix old videos in one place

When a product page or affiliate link changes, edit the short link’s destination once and every description that carries it follows, across years of uploads.

Typed, tapped and app traffic

Clicks from youtube.com carry a YouTube referrer and count under Social. Links typed after hearing them, and many opened from the YouTube app, arrive without one and count as Direct — a separate back-half per video keeps them attributed.

Sponsor reports

Export a sponsor link’s clicks to CSV on any plan, with time, device, browser, referrer and country per click, to show what a sponsored segment delivered.

Clicks in Google Analytics 4

From Solo, each recorded click is sent to GA4 server-side, so description clicks appear next to the rest of your site’s traffic even when viewers block scripts.

Use cases

Where YouTube links get tracked

Sponsored segments

A dedicated link per sponsor and per video, read aloud, shown on screen and placed in the description, with a CSV the sponsor can check.

Gear and affiliate lists

Short links in every description that you can repoint when a product is discontinued, without editing hundreds of videos.

Shorts

Because Shorts description links are not clickable, a spoken back-half on your own domain or a QR code on screen gives viewers a link they can still use, and you a count.

Courses and launches

A launch video, its pinned comment and a channel link each with their own short link show which one carried people to the sales page.

Step by step

How to track links in YouTube videos

  1. Create a link per video

In the link builder paste the destination, choose a back-half that is easy to say, and pick your custom domain if you have connected one. Add utm_source=youtube with Link with UTM.

  2. Place it in the description or a pinned comment

Paste the short link into the video description or a comment you pin, and say the back-half aloud in the video.

  3. Add a QR code for the screen

Open the link in the dashboard, generate a QR code in your colours, and overlay it in your edit.

  4. Compare videos

Open each link’s stats page to compare clicks, QR scans, devices and referrers, and export the CSV for sponsor reports.

FAQ

YouTube link tracker: questions and answers

Anything else? Talk to us — or read the help center.

What is a YouTube link tracker?

A YouTube link tracker is a short link used in video descriptions, pinned comments, channel links or on screen that records each click before sending the viewer on. Letlink records time, device, browser, referrer and country for every click and counts QR scans separately, free for 1,000 tracked clicks a month.

Are links in YouTube Shorts clickable?

Not in Shorts descriptions or comments: YouTube makes those URLs non-clickable to reduce spam. Channel profile links stay clickable, and long-form descriptions and comments are clickable once the channel has advanced features. For Shorts, say a short readable link such as yourname.com/gear or show a QR code.

How do I track a link I say out loud in a video?

Give that video its own short link with a back-half people can remember, ideally on your own domain (1 custom domain on Solo, $3.90 a month). Typed visits arrive with no referrer and count as Direct, but because the back-half belongs to one video, every click on it is that video’s traffic.

Can I track a QR code shown in a YouTube video?

Yes. Each Letlink QR code has its own /q/ address, and scans are recorded with the variation qr, so you can see how many viewers scanned compared with those who clicked or typed the link. Free includes 3 QR codes, Solo 200 and Growth 1,000.

How do I show a sponsor how many clicks their link got?

Create a dedicated short link for the sponsor in each video and export its clicks to CSV from the link’s stats page; every plan includes CSV export. History is kept for 7 days on Free, 30 days on Solo and a year on Growth, so export before the window closes on the lower plans.

Are bot and crawler visits counted?

No. Bots, crawlers and preview fetchers are never counted as tracked clicks on any plan, and with Block bots on — the default — they are refused before reaching the destination. Only visits from real browsers are recorded.
